Candid photographs are becoming more popular by the day in both casual and formal settings, as they offer another side to the event. These candid photographs are like a behind the scenes kind of images that offer a natural feel. So at the end of the day when you put together the regular and candid photographs together, you are able to create a beautiful story. This is one of the many reasons why candid photographs matter for me. So if you are looking to improve your skills, then here are some tips to help you capture better candid shots.

Camera – by carrying your camera with you at all times you are more likely to come across the perfect candid shot. As when you are capturing candid images, you are looking for a natural image that appears and must be captured instantly.

Long Zoom – one of the best ways to ensure that you do not notify the person you are photographing is by using a zoom lens. As it will allow you to capture the image from a distance. This way people will be in a more relaxed state knowing they are not being captured. As it is natural to pose when you see a camera pointed towards you.

Flash – there is no flashlight when it comes to candid images, as you want to capture the perfect moment in the setting it originated. If you use a flash you will grab the attention of the person you are covering leaving you with pointless images. So if you really wish to capture a naturally beautiful moment then try to be as discreet as humanly possible.

Shoot in Lots – If you are looking to get the perfect results then start shooting in lots. This will let you pick out the perfect image at a later time. In addition, this is the best way to ensure that you do end up with a stunning candid image.

Strategically – When working as a candid photography you must learn to place yourself in the right direction. As your angle will matter a great deal when you capture the shot. You simply cannot stand in front of your subject and expect them to naturally ignore your presence. Half of your job as a candid photographer is to sense a moment coming on. So keep yourself focused and look for such moments. This will allow you to position yourself before time, so you can capture the perfect image.

Action – the only way to ensure that you can capture great candid images it to capture images when your subject is in the middle of a natural action. These make the perfect candid images and will add a great natural sense to the image. Keep in mind that timing is key in candid photographs, so if you miss a moment you have to move on.

These tips will help you get started on your candid photography session. Just keep in mind that you will learn and develop more skills with time.
